Event Description

“You don’t look disabled.” “You look fine.” Invisible disabilities are not immediately apparent, “masked” to an observer, and provide unique workplace and career challenges. Often people think “disability” only refers to people using a wheelchair or walker, but 74% of Americans with a severe disability don’t use such devices. Invisible disabilities sometimes, or always, limit daily activities, range from mild to severe, and vary from person to person. Because of this, people with invisible disabilities can feel stigmatized because of the health issues they have, however; having an invisible disabilities does not mean that work cannot be successful. Drawing on research and experience, the presenters offer a look at the need to raise awareness around invisible disabilities and their impact in the workplace today. Join us for an educational presentation and discussion on the most common invisible disabilities and gain insights and understanding of strengths associated with them.

In this session, you will learn:

  • about the most common Invisible Disabilities in the workforce today
  • data correlating to the future workforce and Invisible Disabilities
  • how to better serve, lead and coach people with Invisible Disabilities
  • when to refer and resources to offer
  • disclosure rights, privacy and options that protect people with invisible disabilities
